Super Y-League ... Are You Ready?
Frequently Asked Questions

What is USYSA, US CLUB and United Soccer League (USL) Super Y-League (SYL)? Why is Quickstrike FC affiliated with all three?

USYSA is a traditional soccer association; most clubs in our area are members. We are associated with USYSA through our relationship with the East Hudson Youth Soccer League. Both US Club and United Soccer League (Super Y-League) are separate affiliations. US Club allows our teams flexibility to participate in additional events and activities besides those offered by our USYSA affiliation. Our SYL affiliation is unique to this portion of Hudson Valley and is an opportunity that no other local program
can offer players.

What are the unique offerings of the Super Y-League?

In September of 2006, Quickstrike FC was awarded a United Soccer League (USL) Super Y-League (SYL) membership. Memberships are carefully awarded through out the United States . Quickstrike SYL is the first and only franchise awarded to this portion
of the country (lower Hudson Valley).

What exactly is USL Super Y-League?

The future of soccer lives in the USL Super Y-League, a professionalized system that is the first step for developing elite youth soccer players in North America . Affiliated with US Soccer and partnered with US Club Soccer, the league is designed for talented youth players destined for professional or international careers. The league contains the youth academies of USL First Division, USL Second Division, Premier Development League, W-League, and Major League Soccer clubs, as well as many of the established premier youth clubs. Through Olympic Development Program status events such as the North American Finals and National ODP Camps, the nation's top players are identified for selection to US National Team Programs. The 2006 campaign features over 800 teams within the U13 – U17 boys and girls age groups competing within 10 geographic divisions of the U.S. and Canada.

If I my child makes the Quickstrike premiere team are they automatically on a Quickstrike SYL team?
Quickstrike will hold separate tryouts for all SYL teams.

If my child makes a Quickstrike SYL team, do they have to leave their club team?
SYL is in addition to your club team, you do not have to leave your club team, or current premier program.

What is the SYL activities calendar?
Training will be provided in the winter (beginning in January), and during the spring and summer months. Games are played in the spring and summer. Players potentially can be identified for the USL National Olympic Development Program (ODP) and may be invited to a camp, during the winter months. Additionally, teams that advance deep into the playoffs may be invited to participate in the championships, at an elite location, in the Fall time period.

What is the USL id Olympic Development?
The Super Y-League ODP Philosophy is to identify players for U.S. National Team Programs, within their natural environment during competition on their club team during the Super Y-League season. The Super Y-League ODP system began in 2003 to identify a pool of players in each age group of the league for identification to U.S. National Team Programs; and to utilize the clubs system in the United States to identify players.

What is ODP SYL National Camp?
The top 18 players chosen by the divisional scouting system in each age group per geographic division of the Super Y-League will attend the ODP National Camp. These camps are attended by U.S. National Staff Coaches to identify players for U.S. National Team Programs, as well as many of the nation’s top collegiate coaches. These camps are held in Florida in January and February each year.

What is the Super Y-League ODP Selection Process?
During the regular season over a series of matches, players are evaluated for tactical, physical and psychological characteristics that will determine their ability to attend the ODP National Camp held in January and February. Through the national scouting system, the clubs contain select individuals that serve as the scouts for the league. These individuals are comprised of coaches and technical directors of the clubs.
